Nov. 18, 7:30 p.m., in the Undercroft: Civil War Lecture: Alexandria as a Major Hospital Center. Learn some facts before PBS airs the fictional “Mercy Street” in Jan. Doug Coleman, a native Alexandrian, distinguished local lawyer and columnist, will focus on what happened at The Mansion House Hospital, Seminary and L’Ouverture, Washington Street United Methodist Church and convalescent camps. The talk will also touch on Civil War medicine and nursing.

The Wednesday 10:30 Bible Study has begun a new book: The Christian Old Testament by Lawrence Farley (a former Anglican priest, now Orthodox). This fascinating book describes how selected Old Testament passages relate to the Incarnation, Ministry, Passion, and Eternal Kingdom of Our Lord. Understanding that gives Christian believers a whole new perspective on the Jewish Bible. Books are $15. Contact Bob Boyd at or see him between the 7:45 and 9:00 o’clock services.
