Fr. Deacon Chris was ordained to the Diaconate in March 2019 by Bishop Donald Lerow under license of Archbishop Mark Haverland at St. Andrew & St. Margaret of Scotland Parish in Alexandria, VA, where he currently serves. Born and raised in Middletown, NJ, Deacon Chris attended the University of Richmond, VA, and earned a B.A. in both History & English. His thesis paper on the Kingship of James I of England, with a focus on the Hampton Court Conference (a pivotal moment for Anglicanism), was selected for presentation at the Richmond Interdisciplinary Research Symposium. He later received a M.A. in Early Modern European History at Fordham University in New York City. At Fordham Chris worked under the mentorship of Rev. Albert J. Loomie, SJ, to research his thesis paper on the political, cultural and religious milieu of London in the decade leading up to the English Civil War. After a brief stint as an adjunct professor in New Jersey, Chris moved to Northern Virginia to begin a career as a consultant supporting federal agencies such as the Department of Defense (DoD), National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). A current project Deacon Chris is managing at CMS is playing a vital role in providing emergency quality, safety and oversight reports for Nursing Home facilities during the COVID-19 crisis. A life-long Anglican, Deacon Chris joined the ACC and St. Andrew & St. Margaret of Scotland in 2008. As a layman he was active in the choir, the vestry and the evangelism committee. In addition to traditional diaconal roles, Deacon Chris coordinates outreach events for the parish and manages the church’s web site and social media presence. He studied for the Diaconate under the tutelage of Fr. John Roddy and was examined and proctored by Fr. Nicholas Athanaelos. Deacon Chris currently lives in the Lake Barcroft section of Fairfax County, VA, with his wife Christine, daughter Caroline, and black lab Bentley. In his free time, Deacon Chris sings with the Pro Coro Alexandria Ensemble and the larger Alexandria Choral Society, and volunteers with the local PTA. He also enjoys kayaking, crossword puzzles and cheering on the Boston Red Sox.
